Heavy-Duty Rear Shock Upgrade – KONI FSD for Workhorse W-Series

Improve the rear suspension performance of your motorhome with the KONI 8805-1003 Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) Rear Shock, designed for 2001-2004 Workhorse W20 / W22 and select 2006-2011 Workhorse W16 / W18 Class A motorhome chassis. These premium KONI FSD shocks deliver improved ride comfort, stability, and suspension control—especially important for Class A motorhomes built on Workhorse and Roadmaster RSR chassis platforms.

KONI Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology automatically adapts to changing road conditions. The shock remains firm when additional control is required—such as during cornering or steering corrections—while softening over expansion joints and rough pavement to deliver a smoother, more comfortable ride.

A specialized internal valve system helps filter harsh road vibrations before they reach the chassis, reducing driver fatigue while maintaining excellent suspension control. The result is better handling, improved highway stability, and greater ride comfort for your motorhome.

If your coach experiences rear suspension bounce, harsh ride quality, or poor highway stability, upgrading to KONI FSD shocks is one of the most effective ways to improve ride comfort, suspension performance, and driver confidence.

Product Benefits:

  • Frequency Selective Damping automatically adapts to road conditions
  • Improves ride comfort without sacrificing handling performance
  • Reduces vibration from expansion joints and rough pavement
  • Improves rear suspension stability and chassis control
  • Ideal for Class A motorhomes and heavy RV applications
  • Premium KONI durability and long service life

Ideal For:

  • Workhorse W-Series Class A motorhome suspension upgrades
  • Holiday Rambler and Monaco diesel RSR chassis
  • Freightliner XCS leaf spring suspension applications
  • Motorhomes carrying heavy loads

The KONI 8805-1003 FSD rear shock is a direct replacement suspension upgrade designed for Workhorse W-Series Class A motorhome chassis and select Roadmaster RSR and Freightliner XCS leaf spring applications. These platforms are widely used under Class A motorhomes where improved rear suspension control, reduced bounce, and enhanced ride comfort are essential.

Specifications:

Collapsed Length Extended Length Upper Mount Lower Mount
13.46" 21.69" Eye 3/4" Stem

Special Notes:

  • Sold individually – two shocks required per axle.
  • Fits applications with eyelet top and pin (stem) bottom mounting.
  • If you have a 2004 Workhorse chassis, verify the rear upper shock mount before ordering.
  • If the mount uses a vertical stud, you need KONI 8805-1002.
  • If the mount uses a horizontal bolt, this is the correct shock.
  • If the chassis build date was 3/28/2004 or earlier (VIN 43392027 or lower) this should be correct, but if close to the cutoff date, visually verify before ordering.

Other Information:

Q: What is KONI Frequency Selective Damping (FSD)?
A: FSD technology automatically adjusts damping based on road frequency, providing firm control during handling inputs while softening over rough pavement and expansion joints.

Q: How do I know if I need KONI 8805-1003 or 8805-1002?
A: Check the rear upper shock mount on your chassis. If it uses a horizontal bolt (eyelet mount), 8805-1003 is correct. If it uses a vertical stud mount, you need 8805-1002.

I know this question is probably very subjective, but, approximately how many miles should these shocks last? I installed these on my 2003 Workhorse over 10 years ago, but relatively low miles, but the front end is beginning to porpoise again. Thanks- Ernie ( Ernie Brodie, 06/08/2021 )
The Koni shocks carry a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser, I would recommend contacting Koni directly to see about sending them in for testing.
MY REAR SHOCKS HAVE A THREADED END AT THE BOTTOM (pointing at the pavement). Is this the correct rear shock (8805-1003)? If not, which koni shock fits the rear?I am going to order both front (8805-1001) and rear Koni shocks from you after I get the right part #. Thanks, nice quiz. ( Richard, 10/20/2016 )

Richard,

Yes, the 8805-1003 have an eyelet top mount and stud bottom mount.
