Heavy-Duty Rear Shock Upgrade – KONI FSD for Workhorse W-Series / R26 UFO / Chevrolet Kodiak C4500 & C5500

Upgrade the rear suspension performance of your motorhome or commercial chassis with the KONI 8805-1002 Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) Rear Shock, designed for Workhorse W-Series, Workhorse R26 UFO, Workhorse W62, and Chevrolet Kodiak C4500 / C5500 applications with stud top and bottom mounting. These premium KONI FSD shocks are engineered to improve ride comfort, stability, and handling—especially important for Class A motorhomes, commercial chassis, and heavily loaded truck applications.

KONI Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology automatically adapts to changing road conditions. The shock stays firm when more control is needed—such as during cornering, lane changes, and suspension inputs—but rides softer over expansion joints, rough pavement, and uneven roads to provide a smoother driving experience.

A specialized internal valve helps filter out harsh vibrations before they reach the chassis, reducing driver fatigue while maintaining excellent suspension control. This gives you the best of both worlds: improved handling without sacrificing ride comfort.

If your chassis experiences harsh ride quality, rear-end bounce, or poor highway stability, upgrading to KONI FSD shocks is one of the most effective ways to improve ride comfort, suspension control, and driver confidence.

Product Benefits:

  • Frequency Selective Damping automatically adapts to road conditions
  • Improves ride comfort without sacrificing handling performance
  • Reduces vibration from expansion joints and rough pavement
  • Improves rear suspension stability and chassis control
  • Ideal for Class A motorhomes, commercial chassis, and medium-duty truck applications
  • Premium KONI durability and long service life

Ideal For:

  • Class A gas motorhomes
  • Workhorse W-Series suspension upgrades
  • Chevrolet Kodiak C4500 / C5500 suspension improvements
  • Commercial chassis carrying heavy loads
  • Long-distance RV and fleet travel
  • Drivers seeking improved ride comfort and stability

Applications:

  • 2004.5-2011 Workhorse W20 / W22 / W24 with Stud Top and Bottom Mounting – Rear
  • 2003-2011 Chevrolet Kodiak C4500 / C5500 with Stud Top and Bottom Mounting – Rear
  • 2007-2008 Workhorse R26 UFO – Rear
  • 2007-2012 Workhorse W62 Commercial Chassis – Rear

The KONI 8805-1002 FSD rear shock is a direct replacement suspension upgrade designed for Workhorse W-Series chassis, Workhorse R26 UFO, Workhorse W62, and Chevrolet Kodiak C4500 / C5500 applications with stud top and bottom mounting. These chassis are widely used under Class A motorhomes and commercial truck platforms where improved rear suspension control, ride comfort, and highway stability are essential. This shock provides reduced rear-end bounce, improved damping control, and a smoother ride compared to factory shock absorbers.

Specifications:

Collapsed Length Extended Length Upper Mount Lower Mount
12.68" 20.91" Stem Stem

Special Notes:

  • Sold individually – two shocks required per axle.
  • Fits applications with stud top and bottom mounting only.
  • If you have a 2004 Workhorse chassis, verify the top mount of the rear shock before ordering.
  • If the top mount uses a horizontal bolt, you need KONI 8805-1003 for the rear.
  • If the top mount uses a vertical stud, this is the correct rear KONI shock.
  • If the chassis build date was 3/29/2004 or later (VIN 43392028 or higher), this should be the correct shock, but if the build date or VIN is close, visually verify before ordering.

Other Information:

Q: What is KONI Frequency Selective Damping (FSD)?
A: FSD technology automatically adjusts damping based on road frequency, allowing the shock to remain firm during handling inputs while softening over rough pavement and expansion joints.

Q: How do I know if I need KONI 8805-1002 or 8805-1003?
A: Verify the rear upper shock mount on your chassis. If it uses a vertical stud, 8805-1002 is correct. If it uses a horizontal bolt, you need 8805-1003.

I just received my order of 8805-1001 and 8805-1002 Koni shocks. When I opened the box for the rear 8805-1002 shocks there was an instruction sheet inside which appears to talk about adjusting the shock by turning 1-4 revolutions. I am confused I thought these (gold) shocks were completely self adjusting and there was no stiffness adjustment I needed to make. The instruction number at the top is 1027 05 00 00 301/2 on one side and 1027 05 13 42 on the other. Does this really apply to this shock? These shocks are for my motorhome with a workhorse chassis W22. ( Craig Larson, 03/12/2019 )
You are correct, the FSD (gold) shocks are self-adjusting. For some reason, Koni puts the adjustment instructions in all their boxes so just ignore that.
