Heavy-Duty Front Shock Upgrade – KONI FSD for Monaco & Holiday Rambler with Roadmaster 8 & 10 Air Bag Suspension

Upgrade the front suspension of your motorhome with the KONI 8805-1004 Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) Front Shock, designed for 1993-2014 Monaco and Holiday Rambler Class A motorhomes built on Roadmaster 8 and 10 air bag chassis. These premium KONI FSD shocks are engineered to improve ride comfort, stability, and suspension control—especially important for diesel pusher motorhomes with air ride suspension systems.

KONI Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology automatically adjusts to changing road conditions. The shock remains firm when additional control is needed—such as during cornering, steering corrections, or large suspension inputs—while softening over expansion joints and rough pavement to deliver a smoother ride.

A specialized internal valve system helps filter harsh road vibrations before they reach the chassis, reducing driver fatigue while maintaining excellent suspension stability. The result is improved ride comfort, better steering control, and increased highway stability for your motorhome.

If your coach experiences front-end bounce, harsh ride quality, or poor steering stability, upgrading to KONI FSD shocks is one of the most effective ways to improve ride comfort, suspension performance, and driver confidence.

Product Benefits:

  • Frequency Selective Damping automatically adapts to road conditions
  • Improves ride comfort without sacrificing handling performance
  • Reduces vibration from expansion joints and rough pavement
  • Improves steering stability and front suspension control
  • Ideal for diesel pusher motorhomes with air ride suspension
  • Premium KONI durability and long service life

Ideal For:

  • Monaco diesel pusher motorhomes
  • Holiday Rambler diesel motorhomes
  • Roadmaster 8 air bag suspension chassis
  • Roadmaster 10 air bag suspension chassis
  • Motorhomes seeking improved ride comfort and steering stability
  • Long-distance RV travel and touring

Applications:

  • 1993-2003 Monaco with Roadmaster 8 Air Bag Chassis – Front
  • 1993-2014 Monaco with Roadmaster 10 Air Bag Chassis – Front
  • Select Beaver Coaches – Front (Verify mounting configuration)

The KONI 8805-1004 FSD front shock is designed for Monaco and Holiday Rambler Class A diesel motorhomes built on Roadmaster 8 air bag and 10 air bag suspension chassis. These platforms are widely used in diesel pusher motorhomes where improved suspension control and ride comfort are essential. This shock helps reduce front suspension bounce, improve steering stability, and provide a smoother ride compared to factory shock absorbers.

Specifications:

Collapsed Length Extended Length Upper Mount Lower Mount
15.12" 24.09" Eye 11/16" Eye 9/16"

Special Notes:

  • Sold individually.
  • Many Roadmaster air bag chassis use one shock per air bag, meaning you may need four shocks to complete the front suspension.
  • This shock mounts on a horizontal stud. If your chassis uses a vertical stud, you need KONI 8805-1016.
  • Some Beaver motorhomes use this shock. Verify the bottom bolt size before ordering.
  • If the bottom bolt head is 3/4", this shock is correct.
  • If the bottom bolt head is 1-1/8", the correct shock is KONI 8805-1004SP1.

Other Information:

Q: What is KONI Frequency Selective Damping (FSD)?
A: FSD technology automatically adjusts damping based on road frequency, providing firm control during steering and suspension inputs while softening over rough pavement and expansion joints.

Q: Why do some Roadmaster chassis require four front shocks?
A: Many Roadmaster air bag suspension systems use one shock absorber per air bag, meaning two shocks per side on the front axle.

I have a 99 Monaco Diplomat. Build was 11/98 My shock studs and bolts are as folows. Upper studs measure .687 = 17.5 mm lower bolts are .500 = 12.6 mm I see the shocks are listed at Upper 11/16 and the lower eye at 9/16. The upper will work but the lower of the Koni is .062 larger than the Monro shocks that are my original equipment. I would a fromt and rear kit that you offer but I'm worried about the lower clearance. I'm I going to have to drill 9/16 for the lower mounts ? Thanks
( Wesley Ray Schrier, 10/14/2022 )
Hello Wesley , the clamping force of the lower bolt to the sides of the shock bushing/sleeve is sufficient to securely install the shock, but if you are concerned , you could drill out the mounts and use larger bolts. Also be aware that some of those application will require the removal of the inner washer from the upper mounting stud. If the shock extends past the shoulder of the upper mount stud with the washer off, then you leave the washer off if not then put it back.

The existing Bilsteins have a small upper loop with the rubber extending on both sides for a total width of 1.5 inches. I need to know the upper and lower bolt size and the total eye width including any sleeve or rubber for both the front, rear, and tag positions.

( Bill Laatz, 06/28/2015 )

Yes, the Koni 8805-1004 is for the front 4 shock positions and the 8805-1005 is for the 4 drive axle shock positions and 2 tag axle shock positions. The 8805-1004 and 8805-1005 both have 3/4" top mount and 9/16" bottom mount. The width of the eyelet is 1-1/2" as well.

What is the difference between the 88051004 for the front and the 88051005 for the drive and tag on my 2006 Beaver Marquis

( Bill Laatz, 06/13/2015 )

The valving is different to accomodate for the weight difference between the front and rear.
